10. Jimmy DeSana: Submission, Brooklyn Museum
Open through April 16, 2023
Note: This exhibition contains nudity and sexually explicit content. Viewer discretion is advised.
This exhibition features nearly 200 works of photography and media by LGBTQ creative Jimmy DeSana. Conveying the radical spirit of his era (1949-1990), DeSana explores what the American Dream means during his time, as he highlights nudity, punk aesthetics, and New York’s 1970s and ’80s subcultures.
19. Portia Munson: The Pink Bedroom, Museum of Sex
Open through July 26, 2023
Created by visual artist Portia Munson, this exhibit walks through a depiction of the female body, as portrayed by society’s expectations. You’ll see all sorts of playful female-focused objects like bulbous breasts, humorous crotch clenching nutcrackers, innocent dolls, sexy lingerie, and suggestive vessels. In this introspective exhibit, expect a deep and analytical look inward about empowerment, entrapment, and body image.
