Hew Locke: The Procession, Tate Britain
Each year, a different artist takes over Tate Britain's imposing Duveen Galleries with a special commission that will stay on display for a year. The 2022 iteration is created by Hew Locke, a British, Brixton-based sculptor, who here displays some of his previous works including paintings of Queen Elizabeth II made as part of the 2005 Sovereign series. Indian and Indo-Caribbean culture, including Carnival culture, is referenced throughout, as are images that invoke the horrors of colonialism and slavery as well as the environmental crisis.
