In conjunction with Guadalupe Maravilla’s solo exhibition, Si no sanas hoy, sanarás mañana, P·P·O·W is pleased to present a series of meditations and sound ceremonies on March 6, 7, 8, and 12.
While undergoing treatment for colon cancer, Maravilla was introduced to the healing properties of sound. According to the artist, this practice “cleanses the water in our bodies, which can carry stress, impurities, and, in some cases, diseases.” Now a cancer survivor, he regularly offers free communal healing ceremonies as a form of mutual aid and care. Maravilla and his team of healers sing and play gongs as well as wind percussive instruments in sequences that build into an immersive soundscape in and around his sculptural installations.
Ceremonies will be offered on the following mornings and evenings. Please RSVP to info@ppowgallery.com to confirm your participation as spots will be filled on a first come first served basis.
