Get back-to-school ready with Gaby Collins-Fernandez. Participants will answer a short questionnaire about their relationship and desires for teaching. Using these answers, participants and Gaby will collaborate on a makeup design for their face or on their body that will help participants transform into the teacher of their dreams! Open to anyone with desires for or ideas about image and pedagogy.

Questions:

1. How do you see yourself as a teacher?
2. What kind of teacher do you want to be?
3. What kind of teacher do you feel you have to be?

The event will be streamed live on Wave Farm Radio and broadcast at a later date on Montez Press Radio as a part of a series of broadcasts called Airhead – Faculty Meetings at  P·P·O·W

Gaby Collins-Fernández is an artist who navigates aesthetic inheritance by drawing from historical and personal image archives. Known for her distinctive approach to mixed-media painting, her process begins digitally, creating photo collages that merge self-portraits and art historical images, extensively manipulated using Photoshop. These compositions take on a unique physicality as they are printed on unconventional materials like beach towels and chiffon, subsequently primed and painted with acrylic and oil. Through both process and form, her work explores the abstract languages of emotion, pop culture, repetition, and the resonance of images in our minds and online. She will have a solo show at Rachel Uffner in Fall 2024 opening in September, and is 2023-4 Sharpe Walentas Studio Resident
